HOME SWEET HOME

"Home Sweet Home" mixed media on a cigar box

I made this a few years ago and looking at it reminds me how much I loved working on the cigar box as a surface. One of my first pieces with the house theme, which I enjoy. I moved several times during my youth, the last right before my senior year of High School, and I have a love of houses and what they can symbolize. For me it was a place that contained the constants of my youth. My family, my belongings. Though the location would change I knew that what was inside my house would always be there for me. Affection, place, connection, protection, trust, nourish.

(Looking at this picture also reminds me to iron my backdrop before I take pictures. Sheesh.)
